A Typical Day in the Nursery

Session Registration.
Upon arrival at the hall, your child's name is recorded on the register by a practitioner in your child's room/area. Your child is also encouraged to 'self-register' by finding their name and putting it on the board.

Please ensure this is done for every session ! (This is essential for your child's safety and for insurance purposes.)

Play Sessions
There are currently four areas within the Church for the children to use. These are set up ready for the play sessions prior to your child's arrival.

The younger children start sessions in the creche area, as this is smaller and more friendly. The practitioners will work with you to provide as smooth a transition from home to nursery as possible.

The 3 year olds are based in the large hall, while the older children ('rising fives') have more structured activities on offer in one of the 'Rising 5s' rooms. This is to get them accustomed to a more classroom-sized atmosphere in preparation for starting school.

Any child who requires an early snack can visit the breakfast area, for cereals/toast/breadsticks and drinks.

Although they have their set areas, there are still times when the children are free to move about between all the play areas, both inside and out, choosing from the range of activities provided.

Snack Time
Since the beginning of the Summer Term 2010 we have changed from our structured 'sit-down' snack time to a 'free-flowing' snack bar that within reason the children may access when they wish.

A choice of drinks are offered together with a selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, raisins and biscuits.

Lunch Time
All children attending nursery during the morning session will sit down for lunch at about 12.00pm.

After lunch, those children staying for the afternoon continue to play, while those going home go to the office/lounge area to get ready for collection.

The children arriving for the afternoon session will come into the kitchen area, straight to the lunch tables. It is therefore a requirement that you sign them in before you leave. After lunch they will then be able to self-register. (If you prefer to have lunch at home first, the children can come in at 12.30pm and go straight to their room to play.)

Afternoon Session
The afternoon session follows much the same structure as the morning although there is no snack time. If your child would like a drink in the afternoon we provide water throughout the day or they can have something from their lunchbox.

The full range of activities is still on offer - again with the option to go outside, weather permitting.

Home Time
At the end of the morning session or the end of the day, the children are prepared for home time ready for your arrival. We request that you ensure you sign to confirm you have collected your child - and remember to contact us if you are unable to get here on time. We are however not insured to have children on the premises beyond 3.45pm !!
